The history of the Port of Mombasa records way back in 1890 from it's existence as the Old Port. The Port used to serve dhows from Arabian Gulf, Far East and India. It is situated near Fort Jesus at Mombasa Old Town.The Port of Mombasa is currently managed by the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA),which is a parastatal fully owned by the Kenyan Government. The Port of Mombasa comprises of Port Reitz, the Old Port, Port Tudor,Kilindini Harbour and the whole of the tidal waters encircling Mombasa Island. The Port of Mombasa is the key entry and the exit point for cargo belonging to a vast hinterland that include Kenya, Uganda Rwanda, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, South Sudan, Somalia and Ethiopia.That draws how important the Port is to the residence of Mombasa County.
